The patient’s measurements exceed the maximum standard sizes offered. What solutions are available?Updated 2 years ago

Bauerfeind’s distinctive and expansive sizing regime has been developed from the amalgamation of thousands of individual anatomical circumference measurements from diverse patient populations, to produce a set of standard sizes that enable partially tailored solutions for patients of various joint shapes and sizes. However, often, patient dimensions may exceed the maximum circumferences that can be accommodated by the standard sizes. In the case of a small difference of roughly 1-2 cm between the maximum standard circumference offered and the patient’s real dimensions, Bauerfeind recommends trialling the highest standard size for the product. For our compression- based braces and supports, the inherent softness and elasticity of the flat-knit material provides reasonable accommodation for greater circumferences whilst retaining a high degree of comfort and usability. In the case of rigid orthoses, the lightweight and mouldable aluminium frame of the SecuTec Genu and SecuTec OA confer the ability to reshape the frame and thereby make reasonable structural modifications to accommodate the size and shape of the patient's joint.

In the unique instance where a patient’s circumference measurement(s) far exceed the standard sizing range at one or more measurement points along the joint, Bauerfeind will commonly recommend consideration of a custom-made product for the patient should a customisable solution be available for the product of interest.
