Are there specific care requirements for Bauerfeind products?Updated 2 years ago

Bauerfeind have established guidelines for the care of its braces, supports, and orthoses that maximise quality preservation of the products for guaranteed long-term efficacy and usability. This primarily includes highly specific cleaning and care instructions for compression-based products aimed at ensuring that the products remain fit for purpose.

In general, the following cleaning instructions should be observed for compression sleeves and supports:

  • The product should be placed in a washing bag and washed regularly via handwash or machine-wash following use
  • When applicable, any velcro tabs should be secured to their straps with no loose hangs or direct attachments to the knit fabric
  • For machine-washing, cool temperature at around 30 degrees Celsius should be used alongside a gently cycle setting
  • A mild detergent should only be used
  • The product should never be exposed to direct sunlight during drying
  • Products should only be subjected to air drying. It is strictly recommended that products are not placed in machine dryers

Adherence to these cleaning requirements is highly recommended, as they have been consolidated to ensure that the structural integrity and compressive properties of the product are preserved over an extended period of time to guarantee ongoing clinical efficacy. Accumulation of contaminants, including sweat, in the fabric may impair its compressive capabilities and consequently produce distortions in fit and shape. This can present multiple challenges, including reduction in the clinical benefit of the product, as well as migration and slipping of the brace during movement. Therefore, it is imperative that standards of care are observed for Bauerfeind products to guarantee longevity and suitability. On this note, the frequency of washing of products is variable and highly influenced by the context of use, such that excessive use of a product should coincide with increased frequency of washing.
